There's a new hybrid on the block, and Golf lovers will have something to smile about. The newest addition to VW's blue-badged hybrid family will be a Golf. It will be based on the same platform as the Audi E-Tron system (not a transforming robot), but will be more significant in that it will cost less!
The new 1.4 liter TSI will be mated to a 100 hp electric motor. Including the 148 from the gas engine, thats 248 hp, and 256 pounds of torque! Wait, a hybrid Golf that is more powerful than the current GTI?! (Golf lovers are smiling now). The top speed is limited to a "modest" 138 mph, and it can sprint to sixty from a standstill in around 7.6 seconds, not too shabby. In addition to this, the car can be plugged in to charge, and can be run on either gas or electric power, and a combination of the two, making it a true parallel hybrid. It can run at up to 80 mph in all electric mode, and can go for a maximum distance of about 30 miles without turning on the engine!
Since these cars won't spend very much time at the gas station, expect to see them on the road all the time!
